Construction method. Starting with a hand shaped blank made of expanded polystyrene (EPS) with a wooden stringer....this foam core is extremely light weight and represents a very small proportion of the finished weight of the surfboard. This weight saving core enables the use of additional layers of fiberglass and epoxy resins on the board giving a much stronger and impact resistant surface skin. The EPS core is hand finished and hand wrapped with 2 layers of 6oz + 1 layer of 4oz fiberglass fabric on top and 2 layers of 6oz fibreglass fabric on the bottom. Applying the fiberglass at this stage is much the same as a traditional custom surfboard would be constructed, this makes the surfboard seamless, unlike moulded or 'pop-out' surfboards which sometimes have a tendency to split along their seams. After wrapping the core with fiberglass fabric, the board is saturated with epoxy resin, and then placed in ovens to heat and cure the epoxy resins.
All TakeOff surfboards are fitted with FCS Fin Systems.
